WHERE DO CDM, CFPPs WORK? Healthcare: nursing facilities, rehab facilities, senior living communities, or hospitals. Correctional facilities, schools, and the military. The fastest growing segment of the market is eldercare.

You gain respect as a chef with this credential; people are more willing to take you seriously. The credential gives you the opportunity to seek managerial positions not only in restaurants, but healthcarewhere you also have the potential to earn more money. Barrett Broussard, CDM, CFPP

3 STEPS TO BECOMING A CERTIFIED DIETARY MANAGER 1> Qualify to take the CDM, CFPP Certification Exam. Complete a DMA-approved dietary manager training program. You may already have a two- or four-year degree in foodservice management, nutrition, or culinary arts. Qualify through a combination of training and experience. 3 STEPS TO BECOMING A CERTIFIED DIETARY MANAGER 3> Pass the exam and complete your certification process. Being a CDM, CFPP is a great career path! When I finished my requirements for the DTR, my employer really encouraged me to pursue the CDM, CFPP certification, too. Its a great combination. Theres no reason not to do it! Renee Taylor, DTR, CDM, CFPP

OPEN DOORS, EARN MORE MONEY Those with the CDM, CFPP credential are in demand due to regulatory requirements. CDM, CFPPs earn more money than dietary managers who are not certified. For more information, check the latest DMA salary survey online at:

Even with a BA in food and nutrition, I did not fit in anywhere. My certification opened doors in long-term care, and the CE requirements keep me on top of the latest issues in food service today. Im now a VP of Support Services with 5 departments under my direction. Robin Gaines, CDM, CFPP

WHERE CAN I GET TRAINING? DMA-approved training programs are available in most states. Training is also available through correspondence or online. Core courses cover foodservice management, nutrition and medical nutrition therapy, human resources management, and food safety/sanitation.

Earning the CDM, CFPP credential and participating in the Dietary Managers Association as a volunteer leader has given me the career tools that enable me to be a professional in the areas of nutrition, food safety, and leadership. Elizabeth Jesse, CDM, CFPP
