Vertebrates Living Things With a Backbone

Salmon (Fish) There are different species of salmon. They migrate from sea water to fresh water to spawn. Atlantic Salmon can get as big as 32 kg. They eat insects, small crustaceans, and when they get full-grown, they will eat other fish.

Salamanders (Amphibians) They are a cold-blooded amphibian. They do not have scales. They walk on four legs, or swim with their tails. They camouflage to match their environment. They eat insects and snails.

Bearded Dragon Lizards (Reptile) They have a wide head, with small scales. They eat insects, fruit, and flowers. The females lay up to 30 eggs at a time. They stay in deep burrows during the heat of the day. They are found in Australia and Tasmania.

Owls (Birds) They are nocturnal animals. They sleep during the day. There are 162 different kinds of owls. They have to move their whole head in order to look around. They eat rodents, insects, frogs, and birds.

Koala Bears (Mammal) They are not bears. They look like a teddy bear. They have a broad face, big round nose, and fluffy ears. The koala’s pouch opens at the rear. They eat only the leaves of eucalyptus trees.
