Habits of the mind

Listening with understanding and empathy Understanding what someone is saying. the icon looks like listening and understanding what a person says to you. You can use this skill in almost everything in life for example sport, meeting and job applications.

Thinking Flexibly For this skill you will use your imagination while you think. the icon is about letting your mind free and using your imagination to have different effects of one thing. you will need this skill during art for you creation while you draw and paint, games, writing and many more things.

Responding with wonderment and awe if you don’t know what awe means I will tell you now, awe means having to see something amazing. the icon makes you wonder and makes you say WOW!!! you will use this skill when you win or see something amazing for example: seeing a rocket flying in the air.

Applying past knowledge to knew situations things you know and new things you don’t know. the icon is talking about from past to the future. you will use this skill when you grow up and become an adult and wonder what you want to become in the future.

Thinking about thinking thinking what you’re going to think. The image looks like you’re creating an image into your mind and going to write what your You can use this skill during your work, organisation and the thinking hats

Gathering data through all senses You’re getting information with your sense of touch, smell, sight and taste. the image looks like a person doing something, he/she is using his/her senses. you can use this skill when your doing physical education, sport and when your working.

Creating imagining and innovating Creating- making something that hasn’t been created. Imagining-creating something in your head. The image looks like a light bulb on someone's head, like in cartoons when someone gets an idea. You can use this skill during art, stories, narratives and many more things

Talking and communicating with clarity and precision clarity- being really clear. Precision- being exactly right. The image tells you think before you speak. You will need this skill during speeches and when you’re a teacher

Taking responsible risks Not being silly and to have a go. The image looks like taking risks responsibly reaching for the stars to have a go. You will use this skill when your stuck with a maths problem and your having a go to try get it right!

Finding humour being really funny The image looks like someone laughing and having fun. You will use this skill when things happen just like falling off a chair and laughing at yourself once in awhile when your bored.

Persisting Quitters never win winners never win. The image looks like a mountain and someone never quit to make it to the top.. You will need this skill in anything in life for example you might get tired of playing a game and you’re going to make the finals and you want to quit. You can just stick to it and NEVER give up.

Thinking interdependently your not being controlled by anyone. The image looks like different skills that will work together as a great team. You will use this skill for in a game of sport so you can work as a team.

Questioning and posing problems asking a question and looking for something to solve. The image looks like a big question mark? You can use this skill during university

Remain open to continuous learning staying in one place to keep learning one thing. The image looks like a book that’s opening for you to keep learning. You will use this skill to learn about new things in life.

Striving for accuracy getting things exactly right! The image looks like a target, the target is your goal so you should push yourself to the limit to reach it. You will use this skill when your applying for new things like your work and checking over and over again if it’s wrong.

Managing impulsivity managing-be able to do something difficult. Impulsivity-doing things before thought. The icon looks like traffic lights, red means stop, yellow means think and green means to do. You will use this skill when your friends dare you to do something, doing silly things and moving from one place to another.

Responding with wonderment and awe Awe-having to see something amazing. The icon looks like fireworks flying in the air making you say “wow!” This skill I used when you win a game or Australia wins a world cup and you score a goal.

Applying past knowledge to knew situations Things in the past to future for example A,B,C,D,E,F,G and changing that into words like unfortunately The icon looks like a bridge crossing from one end to another. You need this skill when you grow older, just like when you will need how to write words into sentences and you develop your speaking.

Thinking about thinking Thinking what your going to write or say. The icon is the number “1” “2” and “3” so you can think about your sentences. This skill is used when you’re writing your strategies to write what you have done so you will need to think. We can talk our way through a problem.
