The cut or copy commands place information on the clipboard. The paste command places clipboard contents in a document. There are two types of clipboards. –System Clipboard –Office Clipboard

All rights reserved. 19 Split a Document Splitting a document divides the document into two areas separated by a horizontal line. The horizontal line is called the split bar. Each pane has its own scroll bar. To split a document, click the View tab and click the Split button. To remove the split bar, double-click the split bar when you see the split pointer or click the Remove Split button on the Ribbon. You can also remove the split by dragging the split bar to the top of the screen. Use the split box (located at the top of the vertical scroll bar) to split a document into panes or to remove the split bar.

All rights reserved. 23 Open Multiple Documents Open contiguous files by clicking the first file, pressing the [Shift] key and clicking the last file to be opened. Open noncontiguous files by clicking the first file, pressing [Ctrl], and clicking each file to be opened. Click the View tab and click the Switch Windows button to view a list of open files. –The active document has a check to the left of its name. –Switch documents by clicking a file that is not active.

Use the cut or copy and paste commands to move and copy text. The drag-and-drop method can be used to move and copy text among windows. Control formatting of pasted text by using the Paste Options button or the Paste Special command.

All rights reserved. 29 Lesson 7 Summary The most important tool for moving and copying text is the Clipboard, which is a temporary storage space When you display the Clipboard task pane, you are activating the Office Clipboard, which can store up to 24 cut or copied items. With the Clipboard task pane open, cut or copied text appears as a new item in the task pane You move text by cutting and pasting – cut the text from one location and paste it to another Copy and paste is similar to cut and paste, but instead of removing the text from the document, you place a copy of it on the Clipboard
