Ben Gurion Airport (BGA) is under the responsibility of the Israel Airports Authority (I.A.A). The Security Division is a part of Ben-Gurion airport. Four divisions operate at the airport. The Security Division is the largest one (2,500 employees). Ben-Gurion airportBen-Gurion airport INTRODUCTION

In professional terms, the division is regulated by two governmental entities: ISA - ISA - (Israel Security Agency) - Directs the security processing area A area A of passengers, as well as the armed & physical security in area Aarea A The Israeli Police The Israeli Police – Armed and physical security in area B (Airport grounds excluded area A). Basic Assumptions Ben-Gurion Airport is a strategic national facility - the main gate to Israel. Ben-Gurion IntAirport is in a state of constant threat. Compliance with national & international regulations. Security is not a target, but rather a measure taken to ensure the existence of the main purpose - aviation and tourism business.

1. PREVENT AN ATTACK ON BOARD ANY AIRCRAFT TAKING OFF FROM BEN - GURION AIRPORT. 2. PREVENT ANY TERRORIST ATTACK ON BEN-GURION INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT GROUNDS. 3. PREVENT ANY FORM OF ATTACK AND ADMISSION OF EXPLOSIVES OR WEAPONS INTO ISRAEL BY AN ARRIVING PASSENGER. The Missions of the Security Division

Task: Preventing any kind of attack on the airport grounds. Personnel: The branch comprises 780 employees in 4 units, 2 of which are armed : 1. Armed security guards. 2. Scouters /searchers unit. 3. Peripheral defence unit. 4. Access control unit. ARMED AND PHYSICAL SECURITY BRANCH

Task: Preventing assaults, hijacking, and/or explosion in aircraft taking off from BGA, by means of person and luggage search. Personnel: 1500 employees, male and female, the majority of whom are students after military service, in part time positions. Training is provided by the security division (4 weeks course and one month training). PASSENGER SECURITY BRANCH

The response consists of 3 major elements: REQUIRED RESOURCES Method –Directives, regulations, procedures (relevant, clear, updated). Human factor – well trained, highly qualified, motivated and alert. Technology Infrastructure, equipment. M H T
