Overview of China Spatial Information Gird (SIG) Research Works Presentation to WGISS-16 Chiang Mai, Thailand September 15, 2003 Pro. Liu Dingsheng, Dr. Li guoqing

Summery o About China SIG, Background and Project structure o Aim and our focus o Finished works overview o Key technologies

China SIG plan o A national research plan funded by China government o To build a spatial information sharing and spatial resource co-operation platform o some huge special application system will use SIG, such as climate, disaster, area pollution, and so on o Not only a data grid, but also an application grid o Started from middle 2002, shall continue about 3 years

SIG structure Basic Grid protocols research Reconstructing the SI resources according to grid Creating necessary SIG tools SIG platform Sets of standards Resources and Environment Grid Urban spatial information services Grid Other special application Grid Other special application Grid

SIG Architecture o Three Layer Grid Structure n Basic module layer: include basic grid protocols, such as most part of Globus and GridFtp, which do not need to be modified. n Internal module layer: part of basic grid middleware which need to be rebuilt according to SI characters. Such as RFS2.0, GARE, and other modules. n External module layer: sets of grid tools, such as GAPL language, Interface system, DMS tools, BLL etc.

External module layer Internal module layer Basic module layer

Aim o Information sharing (include Eo data,GIS data, survey data, statistic data ) o Software sharing (include Image processing software, GIS software, special software, network enable equipments) o Synactic Application (how to build a whole application work flow with SIG resources) o Facing to the new coming spatial information (distributed data, huge data, new data resources, new data using methods, data mining etc. )

Our SIG research works focus on the following: o How to share distributed and different spatial data without disturbing its normal using. o How to integrate spatial analysis software (RS & GIS) o How to descript users application and how to submit it to GRID o How to built the interactive interface between grid and web browser (inter-services and intra-services) o A series of standards for SIG building

Three steps o The first step n To build a mini-test grid with three layers structure o The second step n To increase compounds of SIG n To get high performance n Many applications o The last step n To build VOs, running system

T-SIG structure 3M

Finished work o Built a test mini-grid T-SIG, which connecting RSGS-CHINA, Tsinghua Univ. and CAF-CHINA. o Registered resources include two RSGS remote sensing image databases(TM as example), a CAF forestry GIS database, PCI desktop software, GeoMedia GIS software. o EO Data Viewer based on DMS for remote sensing data. o Visualization Interface based on IRS. (DMS and IRS have same work mode as registry services)

Finished work (Con.) o A description language GAPL, and its runtime environment GARE for application o Dedicated spatial resource register RFS, which modified with P2P technology.

A simple grid application example– NDVI

Key technologies o RFS: modified Register service o DMS: spatial data agent and data mining service o IS: visual interface tools o GAPL: grid work flow description language for application o GARE: grid application runtime control environment

o Grid PCI: most PCI function can be used in grid. o Grid GeoMedia: part GeoMedia GIS function can be used in grid, especially the data access.

Welcome visiting our project site We also hope to have co-operation with CEOS-GRID project Thanks!
