WHAT DO THEY ALL MEAN?

Median Is the number that is in the middle of a set of numbers. (If two numbers make up the middle of a set of numbers then the median is the average of those two numbers.)

How is the median of a set of numbers found? Arrange the numbers in the set in order from least to greatest. The middle number is the median of a set of numbers. If more than one number is in the middle of the set of numbers, the average of those two numbers is the median of the set of numbers.

Examples: 10, 15, is the median of this set of numbers. 10, 15, 20, 25 Add = 35 Divide 35 by 2 = 17.5 The median of this set of numbers is 17.5

Mode Is the number in a set of numbers that occurs the most often.

How do I identify the mode of a set of numbers? Arrange the set of numbers in order from least to greatest. The number that occurs the most often is the mode of that set of numbers.

Example: 10, 15, 10, 15, 20, 25, 15, 30 10, 10, 15, 15, 15, 20, 25, is the mode of this set of numbers because it is the numbers that occurs the most.

Range Is the difference between the highest and lowest numbers in a set of numbers.

How is the range of a set of numbers identified? Arrange the numbers in the set in order from least to greatest. Subtract the lowest number from the highest number in the set of numbers. The difference of the two numbers is the range of a set of numbers.

Example: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, – 10 = is the range of this set of numbers.

Its Time To Practice! What is the median? The answer is 17.5 What is the mode? The answer is 10. What is the range? The answer is 45.
