International harmonization programs Cooperation with other ANSPs, airlines, industry and other partners: AIRE, NEXGEN, SESAR –AIRE with both the FAA and the SJU by supporting several flight campaigns to promote the utilization by the airlines of the new generation ATM systems and procedures (in-flight reroutes, data link communications). –Supporting both USA/NEXGEN and EU/SESAR programs as NAV Portugal ATS units are the physical interface between those programs.

International harmonization programs Cooperation with other ANPS, airlines, airports, industry and other partners: –Participation on 30 projects of the SESAR program development; –Supporting current flight trial campaigns to validate the technical and operational program concepts, SMART – to share a/c flights (progression and planning) between ATC and airlines flight operations centers to support optimized in-flight changes. ICATS - flight object (FO) concept validation on transatlantic flights.

(One Way) ANA Potential control ANA over third parties Airports vs Global Aviation in Portugal (2010): 1,1% Portuguese Carbon footprints (Tons CO 2 ) NAV

Santa Maria (Azores) Radio Aids: eolic and solar energy 35% reduction on fuel based electricity supply ( Kwh/Year)

AIR-GROUND OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY “Interception take-offs” for NBs to save fuel/CO 2 emissions Result at Lisbon airport due to less rolling times on departures (NBs south bound) since 2010: - 15,2% CO 2 (Equiv. to - 2 Million Lts/Year) LISBON AIRPORT

Interoperability between ICAO Reg. (NAT, EUR, AFI, CAR) Active participation on the: –ICAO NAT, EUR, and “SAT” technical and operational groups; –AEFMP (Algeria, Spain, France, Morocco and Portugal) ATS working arrangements & improvement plans; Financial support of the NAT arrangements to monitor the aircraft RVSM capabilities. Participation on the Satellite Navigation “EGNOS” system deployment. Also as shareholder (8.33%) of the ESSP entity that exploits the EGNOS system.

Regional cooperation and “Free Route” Facilities exchange with neighbours, eg.: –With ONDA (Morocco ANSP) by delivering radar data and hosting a/g stations (VHF) on NAV Portugal sites –Sharing radar data with AENA (Spain) First FIR in Europe to implement Free Route (Lisbon). Concept to be extended to adjacent FIRs: Oceanic Santa Maria, Canarias (Spain), Oceanic sectors of Casablanca (Morocco), Santiago & Asturias sectors of Madrid (Spain), Oceanic sectors of Brest (France) by EVOLUTION OF THE ROUTE SYSTEM TO “FREE ROUTE”

Source: Eurocontrol, June 2013 Average reduction at FIR LIS: miles flown (corresponding to fuel savings of over 15 million Lts/Year)
