WWII Part 2 False Facts Identify the 3 TRUE facts on each slide and write them down. Identify the 2 FALSE facts on each slide, change them to make them true, write them down.

War in the US The Lend-Lease Act allowed the US to be involved in the war by providing supplies to the Allies, without directly joining the war. Rationing was done in the US during WWII. People were limited in the amounts of goods that they could use. The Battle of the Bulge took place in the Atlantic Ocean and was won by the US because of their effective use of the convoy system. The Selective Service Act was in charge of making sure that the US was producing enough supplies for soldiers overseas. Women took on new roles during the war and many of them joined the work force. Rosie the Riveter was a symbol of their new place in society.

D-Day It was a battle that was easily won by the US with few deaths. Took place on June 6th The mission had been planned for one year. Omaha Beach was the location where many US soldiers landed. The entire invasion was on the Normandy coast of France. The term D-Day applies to the first day of any major military invasion. The US was trying to invade France in order to take it from Great Britain.

Pearl Harbor The attack on Pearl Harbor took place on November 7th, The Japanese attacked the US because they were upset that we had expanded into Canada. There were approximately 2000 deaths in the Pearl Harbor attacks. Pearl Harbor was a military naval base located in the Hawaiian islands. The number of ships destroyed in the attacks were more than all of the ships destroyed in all of WWI.

War in the Pacific The War in the Pacific refers to the war that was fought between the US and Japan in the Pacific Ocean during WWII. The US began fighting Japan because they were trying to expand their power in Asia and were taking over many areas. The Battle of Iwo Jima was very successful and few American soldiers died. It was an easy win for the US. Island Hopping was the US policy of going from island to island taking land from the Japanese. Kamikazes were American soldier who crashed their bomb filled planes into Japanese targets.

Atomic Bomb The creation of the Atomic bomb was known as the Brooklyn Project. The first Atomic Bomb was tested near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Tokyo on Aug. 6th and 9th, President Truman decided to drop the bombs in order to avoid the deaths of more US troops. The Atomic bomb had many negative effects on the Japanese and has never been used by one country on another since.

Review from Part 1 Mein Kampf was the book written by Hitler that outlined his goals and beliefs. Anti-Semitism is a term that means Hatred towards Jews. Luftwaffe was the German military tactic where they invaded and dropped bombs on an area. It was fast and violent. The Munich Agreement was where Britain and France allowed Hitler to have the Sudetenland if he promised not to invade any more. The Black Shirts were the German secret police that rounded up Jews and took them to ghettos and concentration camps.
