Motherboard By : Reem Hasayen

Motherboard 1. Its one of the most important component in a PC, it can considered the computer heart. 2. It’s a printed circuit to which a series of other component are connected. 3. A group of component called chipsets are also present on the motherboard, the first one is Southbridge, the other is Northbridge. They manage and coordinate the function of all components.

Motherboard CPU 1. A microprocessor or its called central processing unit. It represents the brain of the personal computer. 2. CPU is a complex set of transistor arranged to be used for data manipulation. 3. CPU is connected to a socket directly to the motherboard, it tends to heat up quickly because of the workload and the stress it is subjected to. To avoid any damage a fan and a heat sink is installed directly above the CPU

Motherboard CPU 4. The performance of the CPU is measured in MHz one MHz = million cycle per second. Each cycle can execute either 16 or 32 bits 5. We also measure the performance of the CPU in MIPS which mean million instruction per second. And each instruction may contain several cycles at a time.

Motherboard

Motherboard Slots There are special socket on the motherboard called slots. They are the insertion point for expansion cards (RAM) video cards etc… 1. PCI Expansion slot(Peripheral component Interconnect) this used for peripherals using plug and play technology. 2. AGP Expansion slot(Accelerated Graphic port) this allows the 3d Graphic card to quickly access the main memory. 3. Bus

Motherboard Bus The Bus is the information highway system data travels on. It is complicated set of thin electrical conductors impressed on both sides of the motherboard
