TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december 2006 PFC Thermal test program: TPL sector dismantling (Q6A)

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december 2006 PFC program consists of 2 phases : Phase A- selection of the spared TPL elements technique test process manpower, cost Phase B- Cartography of TPL sector technique test process manpower, cost TPL sector dismantling project

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december Phase A - Select the best spared PFC by means of the SATIR test bed upgraded Output: Selection of spared TPL elements (best-adapted component) Manpower : 2 pers. Experimental : 5 days Exp. criteria definition : 3 d Analyse/report : 3 d

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december 2006 (SATIR : French acronym for Infra Red Acquisition and Data Processing device) SATIR facility principle Its principle is based on the comparison of the surface temperature evolution of the inspected component with that of a defect-free reference one. The armour surface temperature is observed by means of a digital infrared camera. Low heat transfer capability is detected by a slower temperature surface response Output of the SATIR NDE : Cartography of quantitative criteria DTref is obtained heat flux Heat path control Thermal transient method time (sec.) Difference (Ref. – Contr. Zone) Criteria DT_ref_max (°C) Evol. Tsurf. (°C) Reference Controlled (TCR) Transient monitoring time (sec.) Reference. Controlled zone

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december 2006 SATIR control (spared elements) PFC Program A 1)Analyse the former SATIR control results (v.2001) 2)Infrared thermography tests of 23 spared elements 3)Selection of the TPL elements versus flux deposition pattern 4)Inspection report

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december Phase B- Confirm the cartography of TPL sector by means of the LOCKIN Thermography Output: 1) Erosion / Deposition areas definition 2) Location of damaged tile Manpower : 2 pers. Experimental : 0.5 day Analyse : 5 days Supplying : lamps (1KE)

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december 2006 LOCKIN technique and the in situ device The LOCKIN is a method based on propagation in the CFC tiles of modulated thermal waves imposed at the surface of element. Cartography of Q6A TPL sector Magnitude and phase-shift of surface temperature vary in case of thermal properties variation Time (s) Sinusoidal thermal stimulation Copper CFC Flux (W) Time (s) Flaw IR detector Halogen lamps Mechanical device

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december 2006 Cartography of Q6A TPL sector phase-shift (TCR) 20° periodicity Magnitude ( ) Dotted lines = max deposit areas, dashed lines = erosion area Results realised during the last campaign: feb PFC Program B (Use of the same device) 1- Confirm the damaged element (phase-shift) and the erosion / deposit zone (magnitude) by means of LOCKIN 2- SATIR test on damaged element (protect the test zone) 3- Validation : Cutting and metallurgical analyse Damaged tile ?

TPL Dismantling Project – TORE SUPRA Association EURATOM-CEA 8th, december 2006 Added remarks for phase B: TPL elements Plansee can repair 4 tiles (max) per element = possibility to repair the removed elements (used for analysis of D content). Observation of the chemical state of the channel (oxidation layer?) = protection against oxidation after the dismantling of sector (under Ar, N 2 ) Cartography of Q6A TPL sector
