GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION  Chuvashiya is located on the Volga. It has a small territory - 18, 3 thousand km where more than 1.3 million people live. There are 21 districts, 9 cities. More than 450 thousand people live in the capital of the republic - Cheboksary.

POPULATION  Chuvashes – the fourth big nationalities (1.8 people) of Russia. The majority of the population are Chuvashes (about 68 %) and Russian (about 27 %). Also there live Tatars (about 3 %), Mordva (1,5 %), Ukrainians, Maris, Byelorussians and more than 50 representatives of other nationalities

OUR HISTORY  Our ancestors are Bulgarians and Suvars. In ancient times they lived in the Central Asia and then came to the Volga Soon a mongolo-tatar army of khan Batyj has won Volga Bulgariju.

TOGETHER FOREVER  Only 300 years later they have been released by Russian tsar Ivan Groznyi and became a part of Russian state.

CRAFTS  Chuvashs were engaged in woodcarving, pottery, weaving, embroidery, patten weaving, sewing by beads and coins. The embroidery was the most mass kind of creativity: each woman could do it very well.

OUR GUESTS  Catherine II, Pavel I, well- known writers and poets – A.Pushkin, L.Tolstoy, and others visited our land.

FAMOUS PEOPLE  The Chuvash land is rich with people who contributed into the history of the Russian state. They are: the builder of the Winter palace, and the well- known fence of a Summer Garden – P.Egorov, scientist- kitaeved N.Bichurin, the ship builder academician A.Krylov, the language researcher N.Ashmarin, the educator I.Jakovlev, poets K.Ivanov and P.Huzangaj, the hero of the civil war V.Chapaev, cosmonaut-3 A.Nikolaev, ballerina N.Pavlova and many others.

INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISES  Now Chuvashiya has the large industrial enterprises: the Cheboksary tractor, "Himprom", factory of Chapaeva, the Cheboksary modular factory, Cheboksary HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION, etc. New cities - Novocheboksarsk, Kanash, Shumerlja have grown.

WE ARE PROUD OF OUR REPUBLIC!  On a long way from the Volga Bulgaria to democratic republic Chuvashiya could save its own face, own customs and language.  The Chuvash educator Ivan Jakovlev told: «the Chuvash people have saved up three invaluable treasures – hundred thousand words, hundred thousand songs and embroideries».
