BENEFITS OF OBSERVING OUTSIDE YOUR OWN DEPARTMENT “Never turn your back on a kid with a knife.”

Everything changes….. You are watching an observed lesson. Behaviour of both staff and kids will change

The Do’s Be nice!! Turn up Be on time Don’t sit down Smile, Praise, Move. Talk to kids at the appropriate time Say thanks!

The don’t’s Not turning up Be late Interrupt the teacher Distract the kids Sit in one place criticise

Know what you want Ideally you would have an idea of what you would like to see – but this is not always essential

Want what you get Sometimes you will see things and get ideas that you were not expecting

Afterwards Two conversations, one within 24 hours, the other within two weeks.

FEEDBACK Better if questions are posed rather than to say what you think Ask why certain things happened

Now what?? I should do that… I could do that…. I will try that… I might try that….. That’s not for me…!
