Phoenix Convention Center Phoenix, Arizona ENERGY STAR ® Portfolio Manager ® : Meeting Reporting Requirements and Beyond Zach Shelin The Cadmus Group, Inc. Contracted to support EPA’s ENERGY STAR Program August 13, 2015 Agency Energy Manager Compliance Reporting Systems

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Cumulative through 2014 Over 75,000 active Portfolio Manager accounts nation-wide More than 400,000 properties benchmarking energy use More than 90,000 properties benchmarking water use in Portfolio Manager More than 165,000 properties benchmark energy/water using web services More than 25,000 properties are ENERGY STAR certified 2 Benchmarking with ENERGY STAR is the industry standard. Buildings Benchmarked in EPA’s Portfolio Manager

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Agenda Portfolio Manager Overview Using Benchmarking to Inform Energy Management Decisions Key Steps to Comply with EISA 432 Upcoming Additions to Portfolio Manager – Waste Tracking – Harmonizing the Sustainability Checklist with Executive Order Agenda 2

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade A Metrics Calculator that generates key performance indicators. Energy consumption (source, site, weather normalized, EUI) Water consumption (municipally supplied potable and reclaimed, alternative) Greenhouse gas emissions (indirect, direct, total, avoided) ENERGY STAR 1-to-100 score (available for many building types) A Management Tool that provides a platform for a strategic energy management Identify high performing facilities for recognition and replicable practices. Prioritize poor performing facilities for immediate improvement. Understand the contribution of energy expenditures to operating costs. Develop a historical perspective and context for future actions and decisions. Establish reference points for measuring and rewarding good performance. Apply for ENERGY STAR certification  Accessible in a free, online secure platform: ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager 4

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade – Property Information Building type Name, street address, ZIP/postal code – Property type data Gross floor area Use details (ex. weekly operating hours, number of computers, number of workers on the main shift, etc) – Energy consumption data Property-specific invoice information from all purchased and on-site generated energy for all fuel types Get Started: Gather the information needed to benchmark 5

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Property level 7 Navigating Portfolio Manager 6

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Five ways to enter data for your property or portfolio: 1.Enter data manually (best for 1-10 buildings) 2.Upload data using spreadsheet templates (best for buildings) 3.Send data from your agency’s utility bill management system to Portfolio Manager via web services 4.Work to authorize utilities who already exchange data with Portfolio Manager to push your agency’s data into the tool 5.Work with 3rd party providers that exchange data directly with Portfolio Manager via web services 8 Get Data In 7

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Get Data In: Exchange Data via “Web Services” Using software to automatically push and pull data from Portfolio Manager is called “exchanging data via web services” Each action in Portfolio Manager (creating a property, adding a new meter, entering utility bills) has its own XML “web service” that enables energy service companies and utilities to exchange data with Portfolio Manager to – Manage building and energy data for customers – Access the ENERGY STAR score and other metrics Users working with a third party web services provider must “connect” and “share” with their provider’s Portfolio Manager account 10 9

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade 11 Planning a Clear Approach to Benchmarking Large Portfolios Properties in Portfolio Manager Level 2 of Portfolio Manager Accounts (as needed) Level 1 of Portfolio Manager Accounts Organization ENERGY STAR Coordinator East Region (ER) ENERGY STAR Captain ERProperties Northwest Region (NW) ENERGY STAR Captain NWProperties Southern Region (SR) ENERGY STAR Captain SRProperties Step 1: Plan Meet as a team Determine methods Assign responsibilities Train with ENERGY STAR Step 2: Benchmark Collect data Enter data Verify data Train with ENERGY STAR Step 3: Act Evaluate and report Act on results Recognize efforts Train with ENERGY STAR

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade 12 Energy Management: Portfolio-Level Targets Choose one target or baseline for all properties Property-specific details on targets Graphs with portfolio-wide information

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade 13 Energy Management: Property Goals and Baselines Download documents Goals tab at the Property level in MyPortfolio

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade 14 Energy Management: Add/Edit Baselines or Targets Choose baselines or let Portfolio Manager select automatically Target Options Target ENERGY STAR Score Target % Better than Baseline Target % Better than Median

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Choose from Pre-set Chart & Graph options Download Performance Documents Create and generate Templates & Reports 15 Energy Management: Reporting Key Metrics

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade 1.Target poorly performing buildings – Interpret Portfolio Manager results 2.Audit poor performers – Make an energy management action plan 3.Start with low-cost strategies 4.Continue with deeper retrofits – Consider financing alternatives 5.Implement renewables last 16 Use Benchmarking to Inform Your Energy Management Plan

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Click the Data Request link on the CTS homepage: 17 EISA 432 Compliance- Submitting Data to FEMP 16

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Reporting Tab Data Request displays in “Templates & Reports” list 19 Submitting Data to FEMP- Data Request Preview

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Catching Errors in Submissions to FEMP Problem: incomplete annual benchmarking reports submitted to FEMP (“N/A” where metrics are expected). Goal: help users identify and fix their own errors/omissions BEFORE sending their data to FEMP. Solution: new “N/A Screen” alerts users when metrics can’t be calculated in a report preview, highlights data issues, and provides links to screen where issues can be fixed. 20

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Upcoming Additions to Portfolio Manager Waste Tracking – Users will be able to track waste starting Spring 2016 – Will calculate waste disposed and waste diverted from the landfill including volume/weight donated, recycled, and composted Changes to the Sustainability Checklist – Planning to update the Sustainability Checklist available on the Goals tab to reflect revision due to Executive Order
