FOOD SHORTAGES By: Isobel Parks

FOOD SHORTAGES Food shortages are very scary and unpleasant to families and anyone around the world. Food shortages happen all around the world. Food shortages kill or sicken almost 17,000 children every day and they are only five years old or younger. Almost all the deaths are from lack of nutrition and some are because they need medical help but can’t get the medicines that they need.

WHERE DO FOOD SHORTAGES OCCUR Food shortages occur in: India China Africa South Asian countries Haiti Venezuela East Asia Zimbabwe And many more……………

THE IMPACT ON THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY, COUNTRY AND REGION One major impact is that people are not getting energy from food so they can’t look after their kids. The people can’t work and farmers don’t have enough strength to work which means even less food is being produced. Then it is even harder to get food. The people don’t have energy to cook and grow the food either. Another thing that impacts them is that food prices are getting higher so they can’t pay for food. They also have less fresh water and the farmers can’t grow crops with out fresh water. The food prices became so high that poor country’s can’t buy food for their people.

WHY IS THIS ISSUE INTERNATIONAL? This issue is international because food shortages around the world can’t stop unless we help to stop it. This is also a global issue because 1/6 of the world is living with food shortages and those people are in even more danger from diseases and deaths than a person living without food shortages. 17,000 children under the age of 5 die every day just because of food shortages. That means about 119,000 kids die every week and a fair number of adults and teens also die every week.

HOW HAVE PEOPLE ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE? People have addressed this issue well but we still need people to help because there still are kids and adults that are living in a place with a shortage of food. Plan Canada is a organisation that help multiple global issues and food shortages is one of the global issues. They set up a organisation that will send people that work for them to the poor countries, that way they could bring food to the people there. Those people that get send are people that will help the kids and adults do their chores and work. We should not take what we have for granite and we should help those people in need so they can live a life like ours. So if you have thing like toys or food then you could donate it to a charity that supports food shortages.

WE CAN SOLVE THIS ISSUE BY….. You can help by: 1) going to plancanada.com and sponsoring them 2) you can donate 15$ to so children can have a good meal and food. 3) You can look up sponsor food shortages online and you will find website that will help you sponsor or help.
