Safford P.R.I.D.E. September is the month that we will show our pride around campus here at Safford! We need to spruce up our school and make it P.R.I.D.E. worthy!

Please choose one of the following ways to show your P.R.I.D.E. OPTION 1: As a team of two to three teachers, along with your students, choose a bulletin board and spruce it up with a P.R.I.D.E theme. In the following slides you will find examples of bulletin boards you can use. (Remember that you also need bulletin board space to display student work so don’t fill all of the boards in your hallways!)

OPTION 2: As a classroom, decorate your door to reflect a P.R.I.D.E theme OPTION 3: As a team of two to three teachers, or working individually, choose a place in your building where you can make a P.R.I.D.E commitment wall. Each student will get a sentence strip and write a commitment of something they will do this year from the matrix. Stack sentence strips above each other to make a P.R.I.D.E. commitment wall display

OPTION 4: As a class, write an action plan of how you will all commit to having P.R.I.D.E this year. This action plan can be read over the morning announcements or displayed in the classroom.

Schedule: You will have two CORE KARES dates in September to work on the OPTION you choose! Thank you for making Safford visually reflect our commitments to being a P.R.I.D.E.(ful) community

Safford

Change to “Caught having Pride”

Change to “What does it mean for a Husky to Bark?”

Feel free to google your own ideas! The possibilities are WIDE OPEN!

Please introduce the Literacy Slogan activity the last 10 minutes of CORE. Print the handout about creating the Literacy slogan. First brainstorm slogans they know, then discuss what literacy looks like. Finally, have them start the process of writing a literacy slogan for Safford. Remind them that literacy is not just reading books. Literacy is found in art, reading menus, reading the paper/sports page/comics, reading social media, literacy is everywhere. For the next CORE KARES day, September 23, you will start with the slogan activity and end by finishing up your PRIDE bulletin board, display or action plan. Feel free to modify as you wish. Step two of the slogan activity is to share student slogans and vote on two to send to Diane Dean by Thursday Sept. 24. The literacy team will go over the entries on Friday, Sept. 25 and put together a short list for the entire faculty to vote on.
