Responsible Quality Project

International Seafood Sustainability Foundation UNSUSTAINABLE Fishery in Improvement SUSTAINABLE or equivalent ISSF is working to improve global tuna fisheries so that they may meet the certification standards ISSF is a fresh approach that is making progress toward tuna sustainability – A global, collaborative partnership of scientific experts, WWF and the industry – It is dedicated to science-based initiatives for long term conservation and sustainable use of tuna stocks….applied science, advocacy, direct market action. Bolton Alimentari is a founding member of the ISSF

ISSF

Stock Status by species NOT used in canned tuna

Committments SUPPORTING MARINE RESERVES IMPROVING TRACEABILITY AND STOP ILLEGAL FISHING REDUCING BYCATCH PROMOTING AND ADOPTING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES NUTRITION, HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Marine Reserves Respect for the marine reserves No fishing of tuna in protected areas No purchase of tuna from 4 protected areas  Established by the 2010 Pacific Naura Aggreement

Traceability STOP illegal fishing – High demands for trade partners Regional Fisheries Management Organization (RFMO) member Provide data No at-sea transshipment... – No transactions with companies that have vessels on Illegal Unreported & Unregulated (IUU) list of the EU If we find out : market withdrawal of the products

Traceability High quality traceability system – Trace tuna from capture to plate !! Packaging – Tuna species by scientific name – Ocean of catch by end of 2013 Website – Traceability of every single Rio Mare can !!

Traceability Fishing boat (name) Fishing method Flag Fishing date Fishing area (FAO) Kind of tuna

Transparency & Reliability We are committed to get the following certifications : – Responsible quality audit  DNV audit – Food Safety Management  ISO22000 – Traceability  ISO22005 – Environmental Management  ISO14000 – Health & Safety  OAS18000

Reducing bycatch Adopt Non-Entangling FAD construction Skippers training by ISSF Encourage fishers to target bigger schools Adopt save handling techniques for sharks Dolphin Safe certified

Reducing bycatch By SPECIES By OCEAN

Sustainable practices Strong purchase policy – In line with ISSF stock assessments – Diversification of procurement – No catch of bluefin tuna Support of the Proactive Vessel Register (PVR) – All supplier’s vessels are listed – Vessels need to have an observer on board Sustainable fishing methods – Sourcing 100% tuna caught with sustainable fishing methods by 2017 Constructive dialogues with stakeholders – WWF, Greenpeace,... Proactive approach of MSC certification

Pole & Line from Southern Islands = a selective fishing method that reduces the accidental fishing of other marine species Less bycatch Sustainable Develops local economy

How to reach 100% by 2017 ? Different types of fishing methods – Purse seiner with FAD=0 % – Purse seiner with eco-FAD and best practices =30 % – Purse seiner FAD free= 40 % – Pole & Line=20 % – MSC (no more important the fishing method)=10 %

Nutrition, health and wellness Close collaboration with nutritionist & doctors – Support scientific partners in developing studies and research Spread a culture of healty eating Communication of nutritional advantages of fish – Explain qualities & benefits
