Teaching and Learning in Year 1 Autumn Term: Whole class input combined with carousel based learning 15 minute morning starter Daily 15 – 20 minute phonics Daily handwriting Daily Guided Reading Focused groups

Phonics Letters and Sounds Phonics: Phase 5 Broadening knowledge, alternative pronunciations. New graphemes: /ay/ /ou/ /ie/ /ea/ /oy/ /ir/ /ue/ /aw/ /wh/ /ph/ /ew/ /oe/ /au/ /ey/ /a_e/ /e_e/ /i_e/ /o_e/ /u_e/ Including tricky words. Bug Club Books, online log-in Handwriting Penpals. Main focus: - Consolidating letter formation - Introducing the language and movement of joining. - Some handwriting joins introduced.
