Importance of Lower Dewpoint The lower the Dewpoint, the pellets can reach a lower equilibrium state of dryness. The extra degree of dryness is essential in producing quality parts. Furthermore, the lower the Dewpoint the less time it takes to reach a particular ending moisture content. Very low dewpoints are easily achievable through the desiccant dehumidification process. Chilled water (particularly water at 50°F or below) can cause parts to be imperfect structurally or cosmetically, thereby increasing scrap. The usual method to correct this problem has been to raise the mould temperature, thereby increasing the cycle time and decreasing production–an unattractive solution to a continuing problem. An eminently attractive alternative is to blanket the mould surface with a constant supply of dehumidified air at an appropriate Dewpoint below that of the mould.
