Group 1 Case Study Presentation Proposal for Open Access (OA) Library Leadership Institute 2014

Objectives: 1.To raise the university’s visibility and standing. 2.To provide open access to library contents and research output of faculty members. 3.To enhance collaboration with other universities in sharing library resources. » Our Proposal

Start with: Gap analysis?

Credit: technique used to evaluate the difference between the current situation and the potential situation

1.UAL has a long history and rich collection of printed materials on the history of the island and its people. The collection is listed in the Memory of the World Register 2.UAL does not take part in any collaboration with other university libraries in the island » Issues

3. UAL faces a reducing budget, no enough funding to subscribe new materials 4. UAL does not have any policy in depositing research output or student academic paper 5. University admin want to raise university ranking » Issues

1.digitize the printed materials and make it available to the public 2.cooperate with other university libraries to create a knowledge base (central repository) and knowledge exchange » Potential Initiatives

3.create a page gathering all OA resources and integrate OA resources to catalog/ discovery tools and provide access to more OA resources. Raise fund from government or organization 4.make it compulsory to submit research output to a repository (mandatory)

5. Make the OA repository available to the public which may result in high citation numbers of scholar, thus raise university standing indirectly Deal with the OA publishing and provide subsidies for researchers to publish in OA journals, can help to promote university ranking » Potential Initiatives
