Tourism studies What we have done and learned so far…

Course 1: Basics of tourism Learning basic facts about tourism - Difference between business travelling and tourism travelling - We did a learning diary about lectures - A good basic for future studies

Course 2: Events and program services How to organize A GOOD EVENT -What/ for who/ Where/ When/ Budjet/ achievement/ assessment What needs to be consideret with festivals, shows ect.. We had a visitor (from Finland) from big company which organizes big events, Saimaa Adventures

Course 3: Destination Finland Finlands… -strengths: nature,spas,cool climate, wide variety of activities -weakness: sales/marketing, seasonal nature -threats: costs, distances,location, competitors (Sweden,Norway) -possibilityes: quality, environmental friendliness, creativity We had an exam about the studies

Course 4: Destination Estonia o Visit in Narva-Joesuu, Estonia o Programmes with students from local school visit at local border station planning an event for local and foreign people visit in Narva castle Sightseeing around Narva-Joesuu and Narva o Visit in local spas and hotels getting information about working in hotels getting to know how different hotels work

Course 5: Basics of hospitality industry We creative our own hotel We need to think: – Hotel’s location – Room types – Restaurants – Other activities – Staff

Course 6: Hotel operations room types -Single/Twin/Double/Tripple room -Apartment/Suite/Minisuite -room for disabled people Security of hotels, who works at the hotel, what to do when customer is unhappy, what the hotel offers for what price, hotel rating ect.

Course 7: Event marketing - Case Isac Elliot at IBBF Carried out successfully in co-operation with Imatra Big Band Feastival, Isac Elliot, Sony Music and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences We used everything we learned from Course “Events and program services” and we were involved in the organization of Imatra Big Band Festivals More doing than studying at school
