PLACING ANALYTICAL SERVICES AT THE FOREFRONT OF DATA INNOVATION The world is changing and citizens and the private sector are becoming increasingly adept at making better use of a wider range of data, using innovative and freely available tools. Our vision is one where analysts are confident in using a wider range of structured and unstructured novel sources of data, bringing these together using new tools to solve problems that we currently cannot.

text language sounds, images or animations electronically, on paper or anything else structured semi- structured or unstructured by a person or a machine, automatically or otherwise What is data? DATA subject organised recorded form numerical database files Personal sensitive or not, private or public organisation household area activity product service transaction opinion behaviour characteristic status chart graphic

The Digital Public Services strategy sets out three strands of data activity which have four cross-cutting themes DATA SHARING sharing of personally- identifiable information between people or organisations to provide an integrated service to the individual in question DATA LINKAGE joining two or more datasets for statistical or research purposes where there is no direct impact on an individual because of information about that individual being linked OPEN DATA making non-personal information more accessible and encouraging its reuse DATA QUALITY DATA MANAGEMENT: SKILLS & RESOURCES DATA USE: SKILLS & RESOURCES PUBLIC AWARENESS RAISING, CONSULTATION AND EMPOWERMENT Scottish Government Analytical Services have an important role to play…….
