The problems with the proposals Accessibility-adding this new porposed healthcare would still leave many people uninsured, and thus will still call for the need to leave the old system in tact. This creates an even greater deficit Accessibility-adding this new porposed healthcare would still leave many people uninsured, and thus will still call for the need to leave the old system in tact. This creates an even greater deficit Cost-the cost of health insurance alone is expensive, this proposed plan will cost even more, which Barack intends to use reinstated taxes to fund. Brack stated that these reinstated taxes would also be used to fund many other programs. Interest groups When looking at health care it is interesting to see the ways in which interest groups influence the policy involved with it. If one were to doubt the power of an interest group than all that would need to be done is for that person to see how the Clinton health care plan of 1993 went. The HIAA or Health Insurance Association of America was a former interest group which was against the Clinton health care plan. In order to make sure their interests were realized the HIAA used a highly successful television commercial dubbed the Harry and Louise add. The add created widespread opposition to the Clinton health care plan and largely contributed to its failure. HIAA is now AHIP or America’s Health Insurance Plans and the name is not the only thing that changed over the years. AHIP is currently working with Obama and the Obama administration on health care plans and are actually supporting a health care reform. Although AHIP has not yet come to an agreement on the particulars of the plan there is no question they are supporting it, as was clearly stated by the CEO of AHIP, Karen Ignani, who blatantly and clearly said “We want to work with you”. Recently AHIP turned down a proposal from the Obama administration but they are still working with them. Today the HIAA no longer exists, or rather goes under a different name.
