Chopper JOHN MICHAEL MARIANO EEL 4665 INTELLIGENT MACHINES DESIGN LABORATORY SEPTEMBER 18, 2014
Agenda Objectives Robot Summary Mobile Platform Software Behaviors Accomplishments Time Line
Objectives Assist cooks in cutting vegetables Also assists sushi chefs in cutting sushi Meets the IMDL requirement: collision avoidance and special system sensor
Robot Platform Platform constructed out of Balsa wood 2 independently driven DC gear motors attached to plastic wheels with a caster wheel in the back for balance Contains 2 step motors: one to move the IR rangefinder and the other to move the box cutter 3 sensors: Phone app, IR rangefinder, and bump sensor
Initial CAD Design
Software Arduino Uno Arduino Motor Shield V2.0 Arduino IDE Eclipse IDE Open CV
Behavior Go straight unless obstacle is blocking the way Determine if obstacle is a vegetable If obstacle is a vegetable or sushi, continue forward and cut it. Image processing by color and shape detection and matching the image to a database of images If obstacle is not a vegetable, determine the direction where there is no obstacle
Block Diagram
Accomplishments Purchased almost all necessary parts Downloaded and started learning new programs (Arduino IDE, Eclipse IDE, and Open CV) Completed initial design in SolidWorks Started writing code for sensors and gear motors in Arduino IDE (finishing avoidance collision)
