NMED 2030 Today’s Class… Audio Video Assignment

NMED 2030 The Don’ts –No Ninjas or Zombies –No Drug Paraphernalia –No Guns

NMED 2030 Why all the “Don’ts”? –These concepts perpetuate clichés (a.k.a The subject is overdone) –They are never as interesting as you think they are (a.k.a. It will be boring) –You don’t have the resources to execute a suspension of disbelief effectively (a.k.a. It will be “cheesy”)

NMED 2030 The Do’s –Demonstrate Originality

NMED 2030 The Parameters –Content Must Be Primarily Live Action –Remember: All Content Must Be Generated by YOU –Videos Must have a Running Time of 3-5 Minutes

NMED 2030 The Parameters –The assignment consists of two parts 1.Written research component 2.Final audio/video composition

NMED 2030 Written Component Students must ground their work in reality by completing a 800-word research paper BEFORE beginning their storyboard, production schedule and production.

NMED 2030 Written Component This knowledge is intended to distance your compositions from the realm of the home video and YouTube into the realm of advanced composition. Industry filmmaking involves research because social context is an important component of suspension of disbelief; which is central to cinematic compositions. Find information that connects your idea to the world in which we live and make use of that connection.

NMED 2030 Written Component You must go the library and read published research and watch documentaries related to the subject of your idea to give your composition context. For example: –Art movements –Domestic violence –Comedy traditions –Psychological effects of grief –Psychological effect of falling in love –(the list is endless)

NMED 2030 Written Component You must have at least three sources What you unearth in your research should affect your composition’s employ of: –Casting –Acting styles –Mise-en-scene –Costume –Design of your audio track –Camera POV You must make a bibliography of your sources.

NMED 2030 Technical Evaluation of A/V Camera is stable, smooth movements and pans Subject is framed well, images are well composed Subject is lit and clearly visible Audio is recorded, edited effectively, flows well Video is edited effectively, flows well Titles are used effectively Transitions are used effectively Project was completed in a timely manner

NMED 2030 Critiques –Come to class prepared to share your video or audio assignment to your critique group. –Students will be evaluated on their initiative in posing questions about the work. –Each student will have only 10 minutes to discuss work. Those who present their work will be evaluated on their responses to questions from other students. –Study the Mar5_critiques PowerPoint on the class website in preparation. Each student will be asked to respond a series of the critique questions verbally.
