First Read Read the story as it appears on pp. 71-79 in your literature book. As you read the first time, note (this is a VERB, people– GET IT DONE!) whatever you do not understand, regardless of what it is.

Second Read When you have finished your first read through, take a Literary Devices sheet for “The Ransom of Red Chief” from the cart. With a partner, if available, compare what you found difficult as you read. Would it surprise you to learn that this was published in 1910? Why or why not? With the same partner, search for examples of the literary terms indicated on the pages given. List examples on the literary devices sheet.
