Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Ahmedabad, 3-4 February 2008 The World is changing rapidly!!! Median age ( ) In 2002, China is the most populous country in the world and India, the second most populous. India gains population rapidly and eclipses China in total population in Half of the world’s more developed countries (MDCs), including those in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, are expected to experience population declines over the next 50 years. The United States is the only MDC expected to be among the ten most populous countries in MDCs will experience aging populations, while LDCs will have a “youth bulge.” Nearly 50% of the world’s population could be less than 18 years old by Source: U.S. Census Bureau - Population Division, International Programs Center, International Data Base Courtesy of M.Lightner

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Ahmedabad, 3-4 February 2008 HIGHLIGHTS OF PAST YEAR Introduction of Industry related Awards LINK program by Kerala Section to solve the problem of inactive student branches Several Awards from HQ for our volunteers IEEE in a New Country - Vietnam Very successful R10 Student Congress

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Ahmedabad, 3-4 February 2008 Student Congress 2008

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Ahmedabad, 3-4 February 2008 WHAT DO WE NEED TO DEAL WITH IN 2008? No Growth in 2007 (a small loss in fact), Too small number of Higher Grade Members, Financial Constrains: Decreased Income for R10 while costs of travel increased and # of Sections significantly increased……. Inactive Student Branches, 37% Need for extra benefits of IEEE Membership –(eg IEEE Credit Card for India)

Region 10 Asia-Pacific IEEE R10 Meeting, Ahmedabad, 3-4 February 2008 We need to “think big, think fast, think ahead”…… Dhirubhai Ambani Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish all of us a very efficient and successful IEEE R10 Meeting 2008!
