Conclusion The British controlled Afghanistan three separate times, and that is how it became colonized. The Taliban came to power during the 1980's war with the Soviet Union. The U.S. helped drive the Taliban from power in 2003, and we are still fighting. It will take a strong government, a real leader, and control over the Taliban to make it a developed country.
