Conflict Holling goes to Mr. Goldman's bakery for cream puffs and Mrs. Baker’s rats ate all the cream puffs.(Man vs. Society.)

Summary of Plot During 1967 school year on Wednesday afternoons when all his classmates go to either Catechism or Hebrew Church’s, seventh-grader Holling Hoodhood stays in Mrs. Baker’s classroom, where they read William Shakespeare and Holling learns much of value about the world he lives in.

Theme The theme of the book is to not think that your teachers are out to get you and to be nice to them. Text Evidence 1:”I can skip the boring parts” page 58. Text Evidence 2:”The light made the snowballs look yellow.” page 103 Text Evidence 3:”And it doesn’t matter if we’re under our desks with our hands over our heads or not does it?” page 209

Point of View The point of this story is in first person. This point of view explains of how Holling spends his life at school, if they told it different they book wouldn’t sound good.

Symbolism I chose peace because in the book they wanted peace from the war that was going on in Vietnam.

Recommendation The book is worth reading because it tells about a kid in the 7 th grade like what we are in and it tells of what he does in the 7 th grade during Vietnam.
