CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable Myself Currently am a Resource Specialist at a K-8 th grade site of approximately 235 students. Have been in education for 20 years teaching 2 nd, 5 th and K-8 th full-inclusion special education. A relative newcomer to technology before CTAP project.

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable My Expectations At the beginning of my project I really wasn’t sure of my expectations due to the fact that my competency with technology was extremely limited. I wasn’t sure where to start. I knew that I wanted to integrate technology within my curriculum, but my biggest problem was narrowing my focus. My final decision was to cover the health/science standards that I’d included in my CTAP lesson as well as bring various aspects of technology into my students’ experience.

For Kids Fruits/Vegetables recipe book How Good Is My 5 A Day Chart Extensive Teacher Resource Module contained within CD

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable I was definitely able to integrate technology into my lesson. I was fortunate to work with a very cooperative colleague and her enthusiastic and fast learning class. They were truly a joy to work with and made my job easier. I only wished I’d started earlier so that I could have taken them further with the technology integration. My Realities

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable Actual Learning As a result of this lesson I was able to learn the following skills as well as increase my confidence with technology. I gained a higher level of competence with KidPix 3 Deluxe, Inspiration, Kidspiration, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. I was also able to use more effectively Microsoft Word in the area of image importation and the use of a scanner.

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable Lesson Shortcomings The biggest shortcoming most likely was the timing. A person needs to allow themselves plenty of time to completely take advantage of the technology integration. Also because of the extensive resources available on the CD it was difficult at times to stay true to the lesson’s focus. – Keep it Simple!! Don’t try to do it all!

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable Student Work Samples Basic Proficient Advanced Student created slides using Kid Pix Deluxe 3

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable Lesson Revisions It seems to be evident that through the analysis of the student data that the use of the 5 A Day Adventures CD was beneficial to the student’s level of lesson objectives mastery. When the focus of the lesson changed from merely creating Kid Pix slides to the creation of a fruit or vegetable, students were able to better understand the characteristics of fruits and vegetables.

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable Experience Summarization Through the experience of this lesson I was reminded time and again of the need for a clear focus of the objective of the lesson delivered and the need of a firm grasp of the material to be covered. The use of technology enabled me to narrow my focus by more clearly identifying the most important objectives while also exposing my students to a wider array of activities.

CTAP Teaching with Technology FINAL PRESENTATION Paul Martin, Grace Smith School Create A Fruit Or Vegetable Concluding Statement Through the participation in this CTAP program my professional/personal development has taken on a whole new direction. Through the integration of technology it was easier to identify the lesson objectives thus making it possible to integrate the standards into the lesson. Standards-based lessons enable needed skills to be matriculated between grade levels.
