CONFLICT MEDIATIONS A conflict mediation is where two or more people work out their conflicts with a counselor. There are locked boxes located in the office and the library to fill out a form to speak with a counselor.

Attendance  Good attendance is the number one indicator of success in school and in life.  Students are required by law to attend school.  Poor attendance has an adverse effect on passing classes, earning credits and graduation.  Poor attendance has an adverse effect on lunch pass eligibility and athletic / extra curricular participation.  Those with excessive absences (excused or not) may be referred by SARB and possibly recommended to Orange Grove High School

The Quarter/Semester System 4 quarters (approx. 3 months each ) = 1 yr 2 quarters = 1 semester 2 semesters = 1 yr

H.S. Graduation Requirements 4 years of Language Arts 3 years of Math (NHS) 3 years of Social Studies 3 years of Science (NHS) 1 Semester of Health 1 year of Fine Art OR Foreign Language 2 years of Physical Education + 75 Elective credits = 240 credits/ 220 graduation

Calculating Credits for Graduation A minimum of 220 credits are required 6 classes are taken each semester Classes can earn 5 credits each semester

CAHSEE California High School Exit Exam Subjects tested: Language Arts and Math Minimum scores: 350 or higher in each area Testing dates: 1 st opportunity is Mar. of 10 th grade Note: If students do not pass they will be provided with extra help in Mastery Classes. (Counselors place ALL students who do not pass into Mastery Classes in place of elective courses). Furthermore, students only re-take subject(s) not yet passed.

CST/STAR Test Subjects tested: Language Arts, Math, History and Science Testing dates: Usually in April 5 Performance levels  5: Advanced  4: Proficient  3: Basic  2: Below Basic  1: Far Below Basic Goal: Proficient or Advanced!!

Sports & Miscellaneous Involvement A 2.0 minimum GPA is required to play sports. Miscellaneous involvement can include… Classes (that get credit) such as ASB, Peer Counseling, AVID, Link Crew, Unity, JROTC, and FFA Performance groups (that get credit) such as Choir or Band Clubs (don’t get credit but a great way to meet new people and get involved) such as Friday Night Live or Best Buddies You can ask for a “Get Involved Booklet” from your high school counselor. ATHLETICS ELIGIBILITY  A Minimum of 2.0 G.P.A  Eligibility based on Current Quarter/Semester Grades  You need a physical, grades, citizenship and proof of residence!!!
