Buddhism The Four Noble Truths 1.Life means suffering 2.The origin of suffering is attachment 3.Cessation of suffering is attainment 4.The path to cessation is attainable through self development over several lifetimes.

Life is difficult this is a great Truth, one of the greatest Truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult – once we truly understand it – then Life is no longer difficult. The fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

Hinduism Karma – A fundamental and universal law of cause and effect Current suffering comes from past lives born → live → die → reborn

Islam Three views 1.Pain is a result of sin 2.Suffering is a test of faith 3.Good works will relieve pain

New Age  Suffering only exists because the human mind wills it so  Human thought will eventually evolve to eliminate suffering  Suffering teaches a greater spiritual truth

Mindful Based Cognitive Therapy Mindfulness and Mindfulness Meditation focus on becoming aware of all incoming thought and feelings and accepting them without judgment.

Suffering and Mystery 1.Suffering does not fit the Western model of reality 2.Suffering is a universal experience 3.Suffering is a manifestation of love 4.Suffering allows people to affirm or redefine their belief system

5. Suffering has shame attached to it Shame needs three things to grow. Secrecy Silence Judgment

6.Suffering can lose its power when witnessed in a loving and compassionate community 7.Solving the theodicy God is good God is all powerful Suffering exists because we are created in the image of God God is love

…. all that and a bag of Cheetos!
