Regions What is a region? A region is an area of land that has a unifying characteristic (climate, land, population, history, economics). Geographers use regions to make comparisons.

Regions in Asia There are five (5) regions in Asia – not including Siberia (Russia)! East Central Southeast South Southwest (The Middle East)

East Asia Look in your book, Page 634. What countries are included in this region? Why do you think they might be placed together in this region?

Central Asia Your book does not separate out these countries, but rather includes them in Southwest Asia. Because they are different than the Middle East countries in many ways, they should have their own region. (Look on page 639 of your text book to determine which countries might be a part of Central Asia.) What countries are included in this region? Why do you think they might be placed together in this region?

Southeast Asia Look in your book, Page 635. What countries are included in this region? Why do you think they might be placed together in this region? Tip: Add your own speaker notes here.

South Asia Look in your book, Page 637. What countries are included in this region? Why do you think they might be placed together in this region?

Group Work: Physical Geography Physical geography in Asia includes mountain ranges, climate regions, rainforests, rivers, islands and deserts. Tip: Add your own speaker notes here.

Group Work: Human Geography Human geography in Asia includes man- made features, such as countries, cities, agriculture, clothing, food and language. With your table group, describe and take notes on the physical and human geography in each region. Complete the graphic organizer.

Individual Practice Read the sections AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS noted on the handout.

Exit Ticket On the index card provided you, WRITE YOUR FULL NAME and PERIOD above the red line. This picture was taken in China. IN 2-3 COMPLETE SENTENCES, explain how the physical geography might be impacting the human geography.
