DEMs (cont’d) u Generation of TIN (ESRI TIN format) and selected breaklines (ESRI point, line, and/or polygon coverage) from LIDAR and image data (image data may be existing or acquired separately) u 5m x 5m post spacing, State Plane and UTM, meters l Getting pricing options for 6 m x 6m spacing
DEMs (cont’d) u Multiple file formats for H&H modeling and other applications using ARC/INFO and other GIS software u In addition to automated processing, manual post-processing of LIDAR, wall-to-wall or only for floodplain areas
Strategy for Developing Updated Flood Theme
Flood Theme u Conduct Scoping u Select Technical Methods u Establish Priorities
Select Technical Methods u There are 5 options for addressing each flooding source segment: 1.Approximate study—Use DEMs (without bathymetry or structure opening data) to complete approximate H&H analyses and floodplain mapping 2.Redelineation—Use DEMs and effective FIS profile to redelineate SFHAs
Select Technical Methods (cont’d) 3.Detailed Study (Riverine)—Use DEMs (with bathymetry and structure opening data) to complete detailed H&H analyses and floodplain mapping 4.Detailed Study (Coastal)—Use DEMs (with bathymetry) to conduct detailed erosion, wave height, and wave runup analyses and V Zone mapping
Select Technical Methods (cont’d) 5.Use Effective Information—Digitize effective FIS and FIRM data “as is;” no new analyses or mapping will be prepared
Select Technical Methods (cont’d) u Selection of most appropriate technical method is based on: l Adequacy of effective information l Zone designation on effective FIRM l Existing or anticipated development in/near floodplain
Establish Priority Levels u Establish priority level based on: l Level of development l Age of effective analysis/maps l Mapping impacts l Historical flooding information l Community mitigation planning
Strategies for Developing New Flood Theme u Wall-to-Wall u Maximum detailed u Study all coastal areas in detail u Restudy all approximate areas using approximate methods u Study all unstudied areas using approximate methods u Blend of above approaches
