A Coat of Arms is based on What is a Coat of Arms? A Coat of Arms is based on HERALDRY - a system in which inherited symbols, or devices, called charges are displayed on a shield for the purpose of identifying individuals or families.

Dates back to the early Middle Ages Knights painted this personal mark on their shields Functioned as “team uniforms” Became symbols of their owners and of their families Applied to tunics, saddle blankets, banners, tapestries, signs, coins, jewelry – you get the picture? Soon, it became fashionable to have a Coat of Arms, so people hired artists to design them.
