Presentation transcript:

Syria Genocide Alyssa Goldstein English 9-1 Genocide project

Background on Genocide Started in march 2011 and is going to this day The Syrian army used heavy artillery, tanks, rockets, and mortars, to assault protesters and civilian during peaceful protests early on in the conflict Many massacres against civilians have occurred obviously in Hula in may of 2012 when about 108 people and half of which were children, were shot in their home In august 2012 fighting reached the Capital Damascus and intensified in the second largest City of Aleppo

Introduction of Art The name of this image is un-known It was created and published the same day as the website which is Wednsday, May 8, 2013 Ammar Abulhamid is the person who took this picture It was taken to show what is going on in this genocide It’s sighnificant because it’s a picture from an event that is occuring to this day The image is from the village of Byada and Raas in Banyas

Visual Imagery in Night and my image A piece of imagery from both Night and my Image is dead people being thrown into piles. A quote from Night that shows this is, “ Throw out all the dead! Outside, all the corpses!... The volunteers undressed him and eagerly shared his garments. Then, two “gravediggers” grabbed him by the head and feet and threw him from the wagon, like a sack of flour” (Wiesel 99). All dead people are carelessly being thrown into a pile with all the other dead people This image is sighnificant for both the families of those people and the other prisoners.

Comparison of Night and my Image Some details from my image are the dead people are in a pile and they have blood on them as well as some people have bullet holes in them A motif from the image is death Some deatails from the image in Night are dead people being taken away carelessly, thrown, and then burried by being thrown into a hole dug for the dead A motif in Night is Death which is shown by the way they are diposed of They both have many deaths and in the image there is more blood In both Night and the image the dead aren’t treated with respect

Motif in my Image One motif in my image is death This is shown throughout by all the people in it being dead This is also shown by the blood and bullet holes in some of the people Those both show specifically the death and the people look like

Motif in Night One motif in Night is death A quote that supports this is “He didn’t answer. He wasn’t even looking at the dead” (Weisel 89) This quote shows that there was a pile of dead people located near where Eliezer and his father had stayed. It also shows that there are lots of dead people.

Comparison of motifs In my image even though the motif was still death it was more the looks of the death which were bloody and people with bullet holes in them In Night the motif was also death which was more of the way they were dealt with meaning the disposal of the bodies In both parts of the motif death from both the image and Night their more broken down parts of death still overlaped Even if it wasn’t the specific part of death it was still brought up somewhere in the important lines
