Expedition From 1540 to 1542 Francisco Vasquez de Coronado led an expedition to find the legendary seven cities of Cibola He wanted to find these cities because they were said to be filled of riches His expedition was started because a priest said he saw a golden city among the Zuni Indians Coronado never did find any Golden cities but claimed a lot of land for Spain
