The Odyssey – literary terms p. 1/2 English – 9/10/12 The Odyssey – literary terms epic simile: comparison btwn 2 things – uses “like” or “as” & is longer & more detailed than reg simile.   epithet: brief, desc. phrases - help to characterize particular person /thing (&have right # of syllables to fill out line) What is an epic simile? What is an epithet? Explain the steps as you click to make them appear. First, draw the wide left margin. During class, take notes on the right hand side. The “notes” appear fairly slowly (like someone wrote them) so spend some time as they appear discussing the good note-taking skills displayed (in order): page number, subject, date, title, abbreviations used. After class, what do they do? Have them generate the questions before you click to reveal them. Show how they can then cover the right side and quiz themselves. Summary: epic simile is a long, detailed simile; epithet is a short describing phrase. http://teachers.scholarschoice.ca/products/Carson-Dellosa-507/Grade-8-533/Notebook-Paper-Chart-p25055/
