Solutions Lab Lab Report Format (100 points) Chemistry I Mr. Patel SWHS

General Information Lab reports allow for other scientists to read and understand the methods and conclusions of an experiment Lab Reports should be easy to read and precisely (and accurately) convey essential information about the experiment. The reader should be able to find information easily so everything in the report should be clearly labeled. Your report must contain the following parts as well as a title, your name, name of partners, class, block, and date.

Introduction Explain the purpose of the experiment. Include your hypothesis and why this is your hypothesis. Description of background information and scientific concepts involved in the experiment Briefly explain your results. This should be about 3 paragraphs of approximately seven to eight sentences.

Experimental Methods A list of all materials (including quantities) and procedures should be included in this section. The list does not have to be inclusive but should cover the major pieces of equipment and important procedures followed in the experiment. The objective is to provide enough information so that the experiment can be duplicated from your report. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE!!!

Results This section is where all the graphs, tables, calculations, and statistical analyses are presented. Care must be taken to label all of the components of the items listed above. The Report should include salt and DI water boiling point graphs and density calculations. Also, the class average, average deviation, and percent error for the difference between the salt and DI water boiling points should be clearly shown.

Discussion You should restate the results and explain them in relation to your hypothesis and background information. This section should include a discussion of the precision and accuracy of the experiment. You must discuss possible errors that may have occurred and their effects on the results. You must also link the errors to the data you obtained.
