Understanding the Requirements and Specifications –Publically publish requirements and specifications to ensure Interoperability is supported. –Test Cases built in conjunction with the requirements specifications; support for Test Driven Development (TDD). Common Understanding of Interoperability with Actionable Results –Testing to ensure Interoperability. –What is sufficient level of testing, ensure schedules does not dictate when testing is completed. Adoption of Common Standards and Terminologies –What are the commonly recognized SDOs to engage and follow? Participants and Systems Not Ready for Production –Basic Connectivity and Demonstration only ability. –Test Cases need to include both “Happy Path” and “Negative/Exception handling”. Challenges
Common Definition of Interoperability (IEEE)IEEE ‘Interoperability’ must have the same meaning to disparate organizations Syntactic Interoperability Messages are formatted for compatibility and successfully move from system A to system B Semantic Interoperability Data must be represented and have consistent meaning on disparate organizations’ systems Continuous Interoperability Systems must be able to maintain consistent and continuous interoperability with other organizations Meeting the Interoperability Challenge: HIE Requirements* *Requirements defined at the Health Datapalooza conference, June 2013.
The OSEHRA Interoperability Work Group (IWG) is aimed ensuring continuous interoperability and at promoting the importance of continuous testing within the information exchange and Health IT industry. The IWG will mobilize the community to participate in the building and advancing of Operational Open Source interoperability solutions. Purpose
