No Greater Love Pastor Timothy Hinkle May 24, 2015

John 15:9-14 (New King James Version) Love and Joy Perfected 9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

John 15:9-14 (New King James Version) 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you

μενω (meno ̄ or men'-o) 9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.  The King James Version reads “continue”  μένω (meno ̄ or men'-o) is a primary verb which means to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy): - abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), X thine own.

What Does That Mean?  I want to ask you what that means to you to stay in love…?  How do you “continue” or “abide” in love with one another?  To what extent are we to continue in love with one another?

This Is A “Given” 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. John 10:4-5 (New King James Version)  4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”

Why? Yes Jesus Evens Explains… 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.  Like EVERY commandment given to us, Jesus gave this for our OWN good! For the good of THE body of Christ (there is only one body)

Why? Yes Jesus Evens Explains…  Look at Mark 3:25 (New King James Version) 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.  Luke 11:36 (New King James Version) 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.”  So if we love one another and abide in that love the whole body (including you) will be full of light and love and joy in its fullness!

Jesus’ Love For Us & His Example 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you

Jesus’ Love For Us and His Example  Jesus was telling His disciples that He was going to lay His life down for them.  We are to lay our lives down for Him and for one another.  We have been bought with a price and our lives are no longer our own.  Jesus says we WILL love one another if we are His.  How will you apply that love today?  Will you LAY DOWN YOUR LIFE for..?
