Time and Resource Management  How can I keep track of everything I need to do?  How can I make better use of my time?  How can I get more done during my work time?  How can I organize my class materials?  What are some general time-saving tips?  How can I take good notes during a lecture and on what I read?

Set up a large calendar. –Keep this calendar in your work area. –Start with dates you’re sure of. –Keep track of activities and class work. How can I keep track of everything I need to do?

Set up a small agenda book or planner you can carry with you at all times. –Write in things you need to remember. –Each night, put a small post-it note in the front of your planner. On it list things you must do the next day. How can I keep track of everything I need to do?

Fill out a time log each week to find out how you are actually using your 168 hours a week. –Note the educational commitments and the other commitments How can I make better use of my time?

Keep adding and changing things during the week –Block out time to prepare for your commitments –Outline the empty squares so you’ll be able to see free time easily. –Adjust your schedule as new events come up. How can I make better use of my time?

Make time management a priority by taking time to: –Review your schedule out loud. –Reflect on how well you kept to your schedule. –Cross out items/tasks as you complete them. –Fill out a new time log each week. How can I make better use of my time?

Work during your alert times. –Decide what time of day you get the most done. Always study in the same place. Clear your work area. –Put away anything that might cause your mind to wander How can I get more work done during my time?

Buy a separate notebook/binder for each class. –Buy two pocket folders for each class. Label one “Work Done” and the other “Work Due”. –Don’t stuff papers in your textbooks. –Don’t mix papers together from different classes. How can I organize my class materials?

Read your texts and assigned readings once before you start highlighting. Keep track of your grades on your “Work Done” folder. Keep adding to your folders. How can I organize my class materials?

Scheduling Tips: –Pick times you are wide awake to do jobs that need careful work and consideration. –Schedule favorite jobs in between jobs you don’t like to do. –Do two jobs at once when one job requires waiting. What are some general time-saving tips?

Personal tips: –Keep healthy. –Write notes to yourself; put them where you are sure to see them. –Keep a small notebook with you. –Ask someone for help to save time. –Keep a supply of items you know you will need. What are some general time-saving tips?

Before the lecture ask yourself review questions from where the professor left off and the assigned readings. Date your notes. Develop your own short hand code. How do I take good notes during a lecture?

Diagram/map what you have read. Color code your notes. Circle important terms. Underline facts Put a question mark by anything you don’t understand.
