A Wiki is a collaborative website in which teachers, students, and even parents could gather, edit, and present information. The word “wiki” comes from a Hawaiian word which means quick or fast.

Wikis are… Free Accessible Easy Versatile Private

Collaboration Increases engagement Improves interpersonal and communication skills Builds a culture of trust Students take ownership and makes students responsible for their own learning Promotes creativity Improves writing Builds technological skills Gateway to acquire and build knowledge Content Creation

Create a culture of trust Educate students about and holding them accountable to Wiki conventions Create a common goal for participation Use the Wiki for authentic activities Provide guides for using the Wiki Communicate clear deadlines Define roles for collaboration Clearly state course expectations Model collaborative activities Remain patient with students when they struggle with the technology

Venue for collaborative research and reading responses Build background knowledge of a particular subject Facilitate “flipped” lessons Assemble unit plans Provide students with a classroom voice Collaborate with people in other parts of the world Collect class notes and resources Enrich and support lessons for differentiation
