2009-Present A big educational push was beginning on increasing STEM lessons in the classroom. We found a summer academy at Purdue University involving Engineering in Elementary. Biggest Obstacles Time? How were we to add something else in our curriculum when we already didn’t have enough time to teach what was required? We have tweaked this every year! Be flexible and be creative with integration!

The lead character is faced with a challenge in his or her own world or daily life that can be solved through engineering. This story involves a family member that is a materials engineer.
What did we integrate? Math -involved area, mass, volume, non-standard measurement, arrays, data analysis, problem solving and graphing. Science -involved plants, animals, rocks, soil, and recycling.
