National Board Study Group Meeting Dan Barber 5 th Grade Teacher Irwin Academic Center

Dear Study Group, We identified an issue with your scheduled study group meeting. Unfortunately, to correct the problem, it was necessary we cancel your meeting. You will need to reschedule your meeting; however, please do not attempt to do so until you receive notification from us that the matter is resolved. We expect this will happen in approximately 48 hours. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. Warm Regards, Dan

Today’s Agenda: 2) The good, the bad, the ugly 3) E-Portfolio 5) Other 4) Small group work (certification area OR by topic) 1) Top 10

Denzel Washington’s character from Philadelphia: "Could somebody please explain that to me... like I'm a six year old?" "Explain to me, if you can, Mr. Wheeler, explain this to me like I'm a ten year-old.", "Explain to me like I'm a two year old, because there's an element to this I can't get through my thick head..." "Mr. Laird. Explain this to me like I'm a four year old..."

E-Portfolio: “Submission at a Glance” – Your new best friend

First the good news: NB has eliminated the need to fill out and submit a lot of the forms they previously required.

Be sure to pay attention to how many “files” you need to submit for each entry. (It doesn’t appear like they’re going to let you submit without attaching all of the requisite files).

How is this different? -- Every entry will have a Contextual Information Sheet ; this is different than the Instructional Context page you include as part of each of your entries.

-- This will be followed by the written commentary (be sure to follow all of the specifications for your written commentary (margins, font size, page numbering, candidate ID number on each page, etc.)

-- This will be followed by your work samples/instructional materials (be sure to follow all of the specifications for your work samples)

-- For some entries, you’ll either have Student Work Sample Cover Sheets or Instructional Material Cover Sheets, or Accomplishment Cover Sheets (you will need 1 accomplishment cover sheet PER accomplishment)

-- Some Instructional Material Cover Sheets are followed by one page “response sheets” (you will be responding to the question on the instructional material or cover sheet) -- Suggestion: You’re allowed a one (full) pages response to the questions on the Cover Sheet; Use the entire page to rehash important points about your lesson/video recording/etc.

-- Some entries will ask you to provide a classroom layout sketch

-- And, of course, don’t forget to submit your videos

Entry 4 Assembly: -- Be sure to follow the assembly directions in your portfolio directions. -- Pattern is: Accomplishment Cover Sheet (unnumbered) Accomplishment #1 Description & Analysis (start numbering at page 1) Accomplishment Documentation (continue page numbering; handwritten is okay) & be sure to include candidate ID number Accomplishment #2 Cover Sheet (unnumbered) Accomplishment #2 D&A (continue page numbering where you left off at the end of the last accomplishment) Etc.

Entry 4 Assembly:
