Defining Authorship Substantial contribution to study conceptualization, design, acquisition of data, analysis and data interpretation. Drafting or revising the intellectual content. Final approval for publishing the work. 10

Violations of authorship Giving authorship out of respect or friendship to curry a favor or to enhance legitimacy of the paper. Two or more individuals putting names on other’s paper to increase productivity. Including work by others without providing credit via authorship or formal acknowledge. Papers written by others who are not listed as authors or acknowledged. Including PI’s name on paper without PI having made intellectual or substantial contribution. 11
