Strategies to Transition Older Youth into Workforce Activities After Summer 2009 (ARRA) A Collaboration between the San Diego Workforce Partnership Youth Division, One Stop Career Center Network & San Diego County Community Colleges Building a Bridge to Success

 Approximately 350, year old youth reside in San Diego County  3200 youth participated in the San Diego Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)  900 of which are older, out-of-school youth The Need

 Youth & Adult Individual Training Accounts (ITA)  On-the-Job & Customized Training  Green Building Pre-Apprenticeship Program  Higher Education Initiative  Youth Service Navigator  Co-enrollment WIA Youth & Adult/Dislocated One-Stop Systems The Strategies

Youth Service Navigator  Bridge between the youth and adult workforce system  Build capacity to enhance youth services  Collaborate and integrate systems

Youth & Adult ITA $$$  Youth have a variety of training & employment options  $250,000 dedicated to Youth ITA’s  WIA Adult/Dislocated Worker ITA funds allocated to One- Stops

OJT’s & Customized Training  $2 million in funding for OJT and Customized Training opportunities  25% of available Contracted OJT & Customized Training slots set-aside

Green Building Pre-Apprenticeship Program  $700,000 State of California grant preparing individuals for jobs in the green building and energy efficiency industry sector  Collaboration with 5 local Community Colleges  25% of recruitment goals target older, out-of-school youth transitioning from SYEP

 $5 Million in ARRA adult/dislocated worker funding  Opportunity to access specialized training opportunities in the following industries: Healthcare Green Collar Careers Biotech Higher Education Initiative

Co-enrollment into WIA One-Stop System or Youth Program  SYEP Provider documents Work Readiness Goal Attainment & all Summer Activities provided  Youth remains active under the SYEP enrollment – they’ve all been exited  SYEP collaborates with nearest One- Stop Career Center or Youth Provider for co-enrollment coordination  One-Stop / Youth Provider co-enrolls participant
