Science Science 4- I know that Earth orbits the Sun and that the Moon orbits Earth.

Objective: Today we will identify some science vocabulary words related to our planet Earth and the Moon. We will also act out the vocabulary. CFU: What are we going to do today? What are we going to identify?

To Turn Rotate

In your own words explain what rotate is. Rotate means to turn. Example: Earth rotates one full turn in 24 hours.

In your own words explain what axis is. Axis means a line through the center of an object. Example: The axis of each planet is invisible, but we know that Earth is tilted on its axis.

To move around another object Revolve

In your own words explain what revolve is. Revolve means to go around another object. Example: The Moon revolves around Earth.

The path an object takes as it revolves around another object. Orbit

In your own words explain what orbit is. Orbit means the path an object takes as it moves around another object. Example: If Earth did not follow its orbit, it would crash against other planets.

The shape of the moon that we see Phase

In your own words explain what phase is. Phase means the shape of the moon that we see. Example: The Moon is a sphere, but we can see its phase at night depending on the sunlight it shows.

The time it takes the Moon to go through all of its phases Lunar Cycle

In your own words explain what lunar cycle is. Lunar Cycle is all the phases of the moon. Example: The Moon’s lunar cycle is about 4 weeks or 1 month long.

Importance: Third graders who are educated know that planets and moons perform the vocabulary we just practiced. In fourth grade, you should understand these words when you see them.
