Africa & Arabia ROC tutorial Introduction to A&A ROC Mario Reale GARR - Italy ASREN-JUNET Grid School - 24 November 2011 Africa & Arabia ROC Tutorial

Contents Goals for today Agenda The Africa and Arabia ROC – History – Overview – Next steps

Goals for today Provide you with an overview of the tools currently belonging to the Africa & Arabia ROC Enable you – by means of these tools – to: – Monitor the status of the EUMEDGRID infrastructure – Know where to find relevant information – Provide support to users and site administrators – Get support from the 2-levels support system Shortly describe the Africa & Arabia ROC web site To give you the option-in to become part of the ROC Team

Agenda Introduction to A&A ROC M.Reale/GARR 9:30 - 9:40 AM The GSTAT monitoring tool M.Reale/GARR 9:40 - 9:50 AM The GOC DB F.Galeazzi/GARR 9: :00 AM NAGIOS/SAM monitoring F.Galeazzi/GARR 10: :20 AM BREAK (10:20-11:00 AM) The xGUS support system M.Reale/GARR 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM Questions & Answers (11:30-12:00 AM)

Introduction to Africa & Arabia ROC

The Africa and Arabia ROC Regional projects dealing with Africa and the Mediterranean / Arab regions gathered their efforts to set up a global, Regional Operation Centre to support users and sites The ROC started around the original x-GUS support system of EUMEDGRID-Support to evolve into a more comprehensive portal in February/March 2011 URL: Supporting projects/initiatives are: – EUMEDGRID-Support [ ] EU-Med Support Action – CHAIN [ ] Coordination of Regional Initiatives worldwide – SAGrid South African Grid Initiative – ASREN Arab States Research and Education Networks – EPIKH EU Marie Curie Action for Exchanging Know How

Benefits of Africa & Arabia ROC Unique web entry point for many operation related tools – Grid Monitoring ( GSTAT, NAGIOS, RTM ) – Site Resources pages (GOCDB) – Network Monitoring (Smokeping) – User and Site Support (xGUS User Support ticketing system) – Site Installation&Configuration and Newcomers guides Reference site for a community of people involved in different project sharing common goals: – Support e-Science and e-Infrastructures – Collaborate across borders – Share know-how and resources

Next Steps Some of the supporting initiatives and projects have limited lifetime – We need a clear, concrete strategy for the sustainability of the ROC A long term perspective Coordination among interested institutions and initiatives Re-structure the L1-L2 support system to be sustainable in future – Involving partners willing to maintain the ROC Update content / linked resources including latest developments – Starting by the Grid Identity Pool (Inter-Federation of Grid resources) – Information and links on Identity Federations – Information and links on Science Gateways

16 What after December 31, 2011 ? Are we getting close to the end of a nice adventure together ? We hope not. But it depends on all of us. كل واحد منا
