Tactical Breakdown of Recent Incidents Oct. 31 Arms amnesty for Islamist militants expires; house to house searches by JTF begin. Nov. 02 Nigerian authorities claimed to foil a bomb plot for the Eid al-Adha holiday Nov. 04 Four explosions were reported in Maiduguri. Around noon, there was an explosion outside the al-Kanemi Theological College as people gathered for Friday prayers. Another explosion along a road killed four, according to a local police commissioner. A black SUV containing explosives targeted a military base but did not pass the front gate and detonated the explosives outside, damaging several nearby buildings, Lt. Colonel Hassan Ifjieh Mohammed reported. The details of the other explosion in Maiduguri are not available. In Damaturu, at least 60 people were killed in a series of incidents that followed in the evening. A vehicle exploded in a three-story military building housing the anti-terrorist court; it was reported by Police Commissioner Suleimon Lawal as a suicide bombing but the details are unclear. The First Bank PLC branch, an immigration office, at least 3 police stations, and five churches were attacked with explosives and gunfire and several military vehicles were lit on fire with drivers still inside. Damaturu is the capital of Yobe state in Nigeria and lies 80 miles west of Maiduguru. The village of Potiskum about 60 miles west of Damaturu was raided, killing at least two. A Nigerian website also reported that at least two were killed in church explosion in Kaduna, about 400 miles east of Damaturu. Nov. 05 Spokesman for Boko Haram Abul-Qaqa has threatened to carry out more attacks targeting federal government formations until “security forces stop persecuting our members and vulnerable civilians.” The Nigerian Red Cross reported at least 100 died in the Nov. 04 events. Nov. 06 The United States Embassy warns that Boko Haram may be planning to bomb hotels such as The Hilton, Nicon Luxury, and Sheraton in the capital of Abuja. Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State said that he is ready to begin a dialogue with Boko Haram, urging them to eschew violent means, and urged citizens to be careful.

May 29 – BH claims responsibility for 3 explosions in a beer garden in a military baraacks in Bauchi, killing 3 and wounding 33. June 6 – Muslim cleric Ibrahim Birkuti was killed by two motor-cycle riding gunmen suspected to be associated with BH and seeking revenge for his staunch criticism June 16 – BH claims responsibility for suicide bombing against police headquarters in Abuja, killing 2. June – people were killed when several bombs exploded in the Dala ward of Maiduguri after suspected Boko Haram members threw bombs at a bar-cafe. June 27 – Gunfire and explosions in a beer garden in Maiduguri which killed 25 are attributed to BH Aug. 25 – Gunfire and explosions on two police stations and two banks in Gombi, Adamawa State, that killed 26 are attributed to BH.
